The QPR and New Zealand defender Ryan Nelsen has said that he is extremely surprised by the start that the club has made to the new Premier league season.
After the 2-2 draw with Wigan during the weekend, QPR have set a new record for the most number of matches without a win at the start of a new season. QPR have now not managed a single victory in the opening 16 matches of the Premier league, which has left them eight points adrift of safety. They remain rooted to the bottom of the table, despite having spent a lot of money on new players in the summer.
The club also recently changed its manager Mark Hughes in a desperate bid to improve the results, but the new manager Harry Redknapp has also been unable to galvanise the team to get their first victory under their belt. The former Tottenham man has been in charge of the team for the last three matches, which have all been draws. Now, QPR have set the record for the most number of matches without a victory, which was previously held by Swindon Town during the 1993-94 season. Swindon Town were relegated to the Championship during that season.
“Sixteen without a win – it’s obviously not nice. It’s astonishing to tell you the truth. There’s not been that many games where we have been out of it but that’s the fine line of the Premier League. There’s no excuses. We’re confident we can get out of it. We feel if we can get one win then we will get two and we’ll get going,” said Ryan Nelsen after the Wigan match. The club will have the crucial fixtures before the turn of the New Year, as they will face Fulham, Newcastle, and West Brom.
